Madrid / The Royal Academy has modified, after the request of “several” citizens, associations and organizations, the fifth meaning of the adjective “fácil” so that it does not refer to “woman” who “allows having sexual relations easily” but to “person”, sources from the institution told EFE.
Although RAE has decided since the last update of its online dictionary (DLE), in 2017, that the modifications will be made annually each December, the entity decided on March 8 to incorporate the aforementioned reform, as well as others.
The decision to make the changes, last Thursday, have specified the same sources, had “no relationship” with that on that date is celebrated the Day of Working Women.
“For a long time the House had approved the amendment for that meaning and did not want to wait 9 months to incorporate it because it was going to make a revision of errata and a contribution of information to the thematic classification”, have added the sources from RAE.
The “merit” of having adopted the variation corresponds, they have said, “to all the people, anonymous and famous, and organizations and associations that had requested it and none in particular”.
The fifth meaning of the word “fácil” indicated “especially said of a woman: who allows having sexual relations easily” and now it appears “a person who allows having sexual relations easily”.
Among other changes incorporated last Thursday, there are the change in the order of the meanings of the verb “absolver”, the elimination of “esenciales” in the definition of “ácido glutamático”, or the cursive writing of the word “pinky”.
About the request of the Círculo Fortuny, an association that represents high-end Spanish companies and industries, so that the meaning of “lujo” is modified because the existing one is “negative” because of its identification with “the rich”, the same sources have pointed out that “the word is under review”, that a possible change has not yet been approved and that, if it were done, it could be added in December.
