THE 10 KEYS OF THE FIRST THE STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS BY TRUMP

Washington / On Tuesday, U.S.President, Donald Trump, presented before U.S. Congress. the achievements and challenges of his presidency in what was his first speech on the State of the Union. Trump’s intervention was based on ten main themes:

1. “THE AMERICANS ARE DREAMERS TOO”

The president used the term “dreamers”, used to refer to undocumented youth who came to the country as children, to reinterpret the concept of “American dream”: “My duty – he stressed – is to defend Americans and their right to the American dream, because they are dreamers too”.

2. THE INFRASTRUCTURES, THE BUREAUCRACY AND THE EMPIRE STATE BUILDING

Trump used the rapid construction of the emblematic New York building – in just one year – to attack the current bureaucratic procedures and ask Congress a $ 1.5 trillion investment plan to have the “safe and modern” infrastructures it’s needed by the country.

3. NO MORE “COMPLACENCY” WITH NORTH KOREA

“Past experience shows that complacency and concessions only incite aggression and provocation,” he said about North Korea. He said he will not repeat the “mistakes” of his predecessors in this area.

4. TO PUT AN END TO THE “BAD” TRADE TREATIES

The president maintained the line of “America, first” which was promoted during his presidential campaign and his first year as head of the White House in relation to trade agreements and said: “We will work on fixing the bad deals and we will negotiate new ones”.

5. JERUSALEM AND INTERNATIONAL AID FOR “FRIENDS”

The tycoon referred to the controversial recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, criticized that dozens of countries questioned in the UN the “sovereignty of the United States” in this type of decisions and asked Congress to ensure that only “friends” of United States benefit from your financial help.

6. THE WALL OF MEXICO TO CLOSE THE DOOR TO “TERRORISTS”

Trump continued with the rhetoric that made him stand out in the 2016 campaign and affirmed that the wall on the southern border with Mexico “closes the gaps exploited by criminals and terrorists to enter” in his country. He also called for a “safe, modern and legal immigration system” and stressed the need to strengthen the borders, which he considered essential so that “drugs and gangs” do not reach the communities.

7. GUANTÁNAMO AND THE PRISONS

Another of the highlights was the announcement that he will keep the Guantánamo military base open (Cuna), annulling an executive order of former President Barack Obama that urged the closure of the jail and announced that it will promote a reform of the national system for the sake of to facilitate the reintegration of ex-convicts.

8. THE REVISION OF THE TREATY WITH IRAN

Trump called on the Legislative Branch to review and correct the “shortcomings” of the nuclear treaty with Iran, which he described as “terrible”, and reiterated his support for the “Iranian people in their brave struggle for freedom.”

9. RUSSIA AND CHINA THREATEN AMERICAN VALUES

Trump referred to Moscow and Beijing as his “rivals” and said of them that they “defy” US values: “Around the world,” he remarked, “we face us arrogant regimes, terrorist groups and rivals like China and Russia that challenge our interests, our economy and our values. “

10. REBUILD U.S. NUCLEAR ARSENAL

Trump advocated “modernizing and reconstructing” the country’s nuclear arsenal, although he said he will do so “in the hope of never having to use it, to make it so strong and powerful that it will deter any act of aggression.” Perhaps someday, he added, “there is a magical moment in which the countries of the world come together to eliminate their nuclear weapons”, but still “has not arrived”.
