UNITED STATES CANCELS MIGRATORY PERMIT FOR MORE THAN 250,000 SALVADORANS

Washington / U.S. Government will leave more than 250,000 Salvadorans without migration protection since September 2019. By then, they must have left the United States if they have not obtained another way of regularization, despite the fact that most of them have lived in the country for at least 20 years.

On Monday, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced its decision to put an end the Temporary Protected Status, the TPS, granted in 2001 to Salvadorans who were in the United States after the devastating earthquakes in January and February of that year.

The Government justifies the decision that “the original conditions caused by the earthquakes no longer exist”, that is, that the Government of El Salvador, in its opinion, is prepared to adequately welcome its nationals.

Pro-immigrant organizations, such as UnidosUS – before la Raza -, urged Congress to give a solution to this error and some congressmen, both Democrats and Republicans, condemned the initiative.

But at this time Republicans and Democrats are engaged in broad negotiations of immigration policy marked by the insistence of President Donald Trump to build a border wall with Mexico and the search for a solution for undocumented youth of the suspended DACA program, the deferred action for who came when were children.
