Madrid / The unions have taken to the streets in Spain on 1st May to demand equality, better jobs, higher salaries and dignified pensions in what they consider the “prologue” of a year of mobilizations for lost rights.

Under the slogan “Time to win”, the main unions, UGT and CCOO, have called more than eighty mobilizations in more than seventy Spanish cities.

Among their claims, demand a sharp wage increase in collective bargaining, so that wages recover purchasing power, rising above prices, especially the lowest.

They want a minimum increase of 3.1% with a wage revision clause and a minimum wage in agreement of 1,000 gross euros per month.

Also, they see it necessary to revalue pensions above 0.25 percent and repeal the 2013 reform so that in the next three decades the system will continue to be public and sufficient.

They also focused on the fight for equality and against job insecurity, on improving taxation, greater aid to refugees and greater support for unionists awaiting trial.

The third union in number of affiliates, CSIF, has convened various events in different regions to fight for an agreement that allows public employees to recover lost purchasing power and employment and other unions such as USO have claimed that the recovery reaches the workers.
