Five thousand people maintain since Friday a tireless fight in Galicia against 146 fires (105 still active), in different areas of the Galician geography, which have already cost the lives of four people.
The president of the Community, Alberto Nuñez Feijoo, decreed three days of mourning, described the events as “incendiary terrorism” and he said that the community that presides is facing homicidal incendiary: “Galicia does not burn alone, Galicia is been burnt”.
Of the 105 fires that remain active, 38 are controlled and there are still fifteen areas in situation two, that is, with danger to people and homes: six in Pontevedra, five in Lugo and four in Ourense.
“There may be fires by carelessness,” Nuñez Feijoo said, but the day lived yesterday “is not a result of coincidence or chance”: “There was an intense intention to do damage in places with greater impact, this time urban, peri-urban, towns and cities”, he said.
He said that there has been an “intense nocturnal incendiary activity”, even this night, with twenty new fires started between midnight and 9 am and he has thanked and asked for the civic collaboration because:
“We fight against an impossible; against incendiary homicides, against extreme temperatures, a drought that we have suffered for months, fires that arrive from Portugal and against gusty winds “caused by the remains of Ophelia Hurricane that are already subsidizing.
Núñez Feijoo has insisted that Galicia has experienced this weekend “an intensely intense incendiary activity that began last week” with attacks on natural spaces.
“The people who have caused these fires know the concrete situation of the mountains, which this morning has been the most critical moment by the wind,” he said. (October 16, 2017, EFE/Practica Español)
