Prague / Spain was proclaimed today winner of the Eurobasket and achieved its third gold in this continental championship after a memorable match against France, to which it defeated in the final with more facility than expected by 71-55.
The Spanish team resisted the start of the match, which Lucas Mondelo warned it would pose as guerrilla warfare and eventually developed with a very orderly script, until the last moments of the second quarter, when it broke.
Already at the start of the match, a sharp Alba Torrens was beginning to stand out. She scored 10 points in the first ten minutes, six of these triple, and finished as the second highest scorer with 18 points.
France tried to copy the style of game of Spain, going to an individual defence, to try to stop the fluid attack of the rivals, that made to circulate the ball well.
Spain was the one who carried the initiative and the game, and France used virtuosity and something of acrobatics, mainly in the internees of its small base Olivia Epoupa.
Mondelo’s team began to clearly mark their pace in the second quarter, with a Sancho Lyttle who complicated the life of Helena Ciak, who scored 4 points, and Endene Miyem.
The Spanish defensive play was increasing, something for which they have distinguished themselves in this tournament and, after fast transitions, it seemed that the Spanish ones could leave in the scoreboard.
But Mondelo’s team did not take advantage of it, and the French players began to throw from the perimeter to try to shorten distances.
The third quarter was an exhibition of Spain, with a partial of 17-10, with steals of balloon and sizzling counter-attacks, whereas the tower Ciak amassed personnel and his equipment remained a long stagnated in the marker.
Sancho, once again in this Eurobasket, was impossible under his basket, where she got 6 defensive rebounds and was the top scorer with 19 points.
In the final stretch, Spain liked and began to enjoy their game, reaching a difference of 20 points in the scoreboard that ended up giving them her third continental crown.
