9 types of suffixes to form words in Spanish

“Razonamiento” (reasoning), “futbolista” (football player), “reciclaje” (recycling) sare some of the many words that can be created in Spanish using suffixes. There are many types and each of them has a use. In this post, you will find 9 kinds of suffixes with their respective examples:

-aje (it is used to form names that designate, primarily, an action.)

aterrizar – aterrizaje (to land – landing)

patinar – patinaje (to skate – skating)

vendar – vendaje (to bandage –  bandage)

blindar – blindaje (to shield – shield)

reciclar – reciclaje (to recycle – recycling)

-miento (this suffix forms masculine gender names to express an action.)

razonar – razonamiento (to reason – reasoning)

entretener – entretenimiento (to entertain –  entertaintment)

-ista (it is used to form names and adjectives. Generally, they express a profession or profession although they can also refer to the person who follows some ideas or movement.)
