A HUNDRED IMMIGRANTS DEAD OR DISAPPEARED IN 24 HOURS IN YEMEN

Cairo / Dozens of migrants have died or are missing after being thrown into the sea off the coast of Yemen. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has reported that the victims were forced by traffickers to jump into the water before they reached land.

Most of them come from Ethiopia and Somalia and have an average of 16 years, according to IOM.

A source from the organization’s office in Aden has confirmed to EFE the deaths of 6 people and the disappearance of another 16 in one of the incidents in which 180 immigrants were forced to leave the ship in which they traveled.

In the other incident, 29 people died while 22 were reported missing in waters off the Gulf of Aden, where many other African migrants have died before.

From Cairo, Francesca Cicardi reports to EFE. (August 11, 2017, EFE/Practica Español)
