A Japanese Mayor cuts his salary to “earn the same as a citizen”

Mayor of Japanese city of Nagoya, Takashi Kawamura, reduces his salary to 8 millions yens, 61, 390 euros per year, which is the salary average in Japan

Nagoya’s municipal assembly pass this measure as an exception and just for “the current mayor’s government”, informed Kvodo agency.

Kawamura keeps his electoral commitment of “earning the same as a middle citizen” and saving money to taxpayers.

Nagoya is the fourth biggest city of Japan, with 2,26 millions of citizens. The mayor has the right to earn an amount of 200,000 euros.
