A MOVIE OF SPIES WITH JENNIFER LAWRENCE AND THE RETURN OF SANTIAGO SEGURA AT THE THEATERS

Madrid / Jennifer Lawrence reigns in the billboard this week with a film of spies, “Red Sparrow”, in which she is reunited with the film-maker of the saga that raised her, “The Hunger Games”. In addition, comes the new comedy by Santiago Segura, “Sin rodeos” and an anti-war film by Richard Linklater.

Jennifer Lawrence, a Russian spy in “Red Sparrow”

The Oscar winner for “Silver Linings Playbook”, Jennifer Lawrence, moves on to the spying genre in “Red Sparrow,” an adaptation of the eponymous novel by former CIA agent Jason Matthews, in which they also participate Joel Edgerton, Jeremy Irons, Matthias Schoenaerts or Charlotte Rampling, among others.

Directed by Francis Lawrence, the film revolves around Dominika Egorova, a young woman recruited against her will by the Russian spy services. His first objective is Nate Nash (Edgerton), a CIA official.

“Sin rodeos”, the new  “empowered” comedy by Santiago Segura

Santiago Segura, film-maker, producer and protagonist in the saga “Torrente”, speaks this time to women in “Sin rodeos”, a film with Maribel Verdú as the protagonist who has defined it as “empowered comedy”.

The story revolves around Paz, a woman with a seemingly perfect life but who feels anguished because she does not dare to express her feelings, so one day she resorts to a strange therapy that will make her say absolutely everything she thinks.

The look of Richard Linklater on the war

The film-maker of the acclaimed “Boyhood” has reunited Steve Carell, Lawrence Fishburn and Bryan Cranston to star in “The Last Banner,” an anti-war comedy about three veterans of the Vietnam War who meet to bury the son of one of them, died in Iraq.

It is an adaptation of a novel by Darryl Ponicsan, who served in the Navy in the 60s and also author of “The Last Duty”, which led to the screen Jack Nicholson, Otis Young and Randy Quaid.

Noomi Rapace plays 7 characters in “Seven Sisters”

The Swedish actress Noomi Rapace, known for the Millennium saga, embodies the seven main characters of this thriller, seven twin sisters who hide under the same identity. The cast is completed by Glenn Close and Willem Dafoe.

Directed by Tommy Wirkola, the film reaches theaters after its stint at the Sitges Festival. The action is in the near future in which the catastrophic climatic conditions, overpopulation and scarce resources have led the government to implement the one-child policy.

Josh Brolin, Miles Teller and Jeff Bridges don the firefighter suit on “Only the Brave,” a true-life film that tells the story of a group of Arizona firefighters who became an elite brigade and risked everything to save a town from fire.

Its director, Joseph Kosinski, explores the concepts of friendship, sacrifice and redemption from an article published by GQ magazine.

“Errementari”, a tale of Gothic horror

The film-maker Paul Urkijo makes his feature film debut with “Errementari” (The Blacksmith and the Devil), a tale of “gothic horror” based on a traditional Basque story and filmed in Basque language.

The film features the participation of Eneko Sagardoy, Goya to the best revelation actor for his work in “Handia” and is set in the years after the first Carlist War, around 1843, in a small town in Álava, where a curator investigates a event that takes him to a sinister smithy in the depths of the forest.

“Foxtrot”, a harsh portrait of the Israeli Army

The Israeli film-maker Samuel Maoz, winner of the Golden Lion of Venice in 2009 with “Lebanon”, draws a harsh portrait of the Israeli army and criticizes the exaggerated militarization of the country in “Foxtrot”.

Contained in three parts, in the style of a classic Greek tragedy, the film shows two generations, the first of survivors, and the second, of young people who currently perform compulsory military service. Everyone is traumatized.

“Bigfoot’s son”, a proposal for the whole family

The Belgian Ben Stassen signs this animated film for all audiences that bets on the American myth of Bigfoot. Set in a peripheral neighborhood of the United States, the protagonist is a rather shy child who suffers harassment until one day he discovers that he has strange abilities.
