Spain’s frigate “Navarra”,deployed as part of a European Union mission in the fight against human trafficking in the Mediterranean, has rescued 394 men, 101 women and 83 children in the last hours off Libya’s coast, who are trying to reach Europe on board small inflatable boats.

According to Defence, operation began yesterday morning (on Saturday) when frigate, that is patrolling area, received a notice of the presence of several inflatable boats with a large number of people on board.

Frigate of the Spanish Navy sailed for area of the notice while 200 militaries that are part of its crew are preparing for the rescue.

Localized vessels, ‘Navarra’ lowered two inflatable boats to help emigrants, prioritizing children and women, the firsts who were rescued.

Once safely aboard the Navy vessel, the migrants were given blankets, dry clothes, food, water, and first aid was offered to those who needed it.

Then, Spanish vessel went to Italian coasts to land people rescued.

During deployment of the EUNAVFOR MED operation Sophia, frigate ‘Navarra’ has rescued more than 1,800 people in similar circumstances.
