ABOUT 17,000 POLICE OFFICERS WILL ENSURE SECURITY IN THE ELECTION DAY

Barcelona /More than 17,000 police officers will be deployed on the occasion of the elections in Catalonia, in a day in which Mossos d’Esquadra will be increased to 12,321 officers to ensure their permanent presence in most of the 2,680 polling stations.

Specifically, the Mossos d’Esquadra, which were deployed 8,100 agents on Election Day of the autonomous communities in September 2015, will now have the support of 1,834 local police officers and 104 security guards, which means a total of 14,259 personnel.

To them will be added, up to more than 17,000 agents in total, the National Police and the Civil Guard, which, at the same time, will also be present in the coordination centers and will be deployed to guard public buildings owned by the State, infrastructure of its competence and to provide support to the Mossos, if necessary.

The Mossos d’Esquadra have increased the presence of officers by opting for a static and non-dynamic device, to ensure their stable presence at most polling stations, unlike what happened until now, when a single patrol guarded three or four schools at the same time, traveling by car.

The security device has been designed to guarantee voting in 2,680 polling stations, located in the 947 Catalan municipalities, with 8,247 polling stations: 5,885 in Barcelona, 825 in Girona, 534 in Lleida and 1,003 in Tarragona, managed by 24,741 full members and 49,482 substitutes and 3,889 representatives of the administration.

Specifically, the Mossos d’Esquadra will provide coverage to 2,680 polling stations, along with local police, who will be responsible exclusively for the surveillance of another 600 polling stations, such as the Barcelona City Guard, which will monitor 70 polling stations.
