Are data of 460,000 customers of Uniqlo and GU in the hands of hackers?

Tokyo/ Data from more than 460,000 customers of the Japanese online sales platforms of clothing brands Uniqlo and GU could have been stolen in a recent computer attack, Fast Retailing, the parent company of the firms, said on Tuesday.

“A total of 461,091 unauthorized accesses occurred between April 23 and May 10,” the company said in a statement, which doesn’t rule out that the number of affected “may change during the course of the investigation” that is taking place.

The data recorded in these “online” sales platforms that could have been leaked in the cyber attack include the full name of the users, their postal address, telephone numbers, emails and partial credit card information.

The company said it has identified the origin of the communication from which the unauthorized session initiations were attempted and “has blocked access”.

“On May 13, the company deactivated the passwords of the 461,091 accounts which had been accessed and is sending individual emails to each affected person, requesting that they reset their password,” the textile company explained.
