Are you going to watch Goya Awards?

The gala of the 33rd edition of the Film Academy Awards is held on Saturday night at the FIBES Congress and Exhibition Centre in Seville and, as every year, it will be broadcast by TVE and commented by the Academy itself through social networks. These are the ten keys that are needed to follow the ceremony:

.- SEVILLE – It’s the second time in the history of these awards that these are celebrated outside of Madrid. The first was in Barcelona in 2000.

.- THE PRESENTERS– They are a couple in real life. Andreu Buenafuente, who has presented the Goya Awards on two other occasions, shares the honours with the actress and comedian Silvia Abril.

.- THE FAVOURITE FILMS.– The political corruption of “El reino”, according to Rodrigo Sorogoyen, and the unprejudiced look of Javier Fesser towards the disabled in the comedy “Campeones” start as favourites films by nominations: 13 and 11 respectively, including best film and best direction.

.- THE ASPIRANTS- The other contenders for the big prize -Best movie- are two independent films: “Carmen y Lola”, a lesbian and gypsy love story directed by Arantxa Echevarria; and “Entre dos aguas”, a look at the marginalized of the system, by Isaki Lacuesta. The fifth, an exquisite rarity: the rural Spain according to the Iranian winner of two Oscars Asghar Farhadi.

.- DOUBLET – Although he only won it once, Antonio de la Torre is the Spanish actor with the most nominations to the Goya (13) and this is the fourth edition in which he makes a double nomination for the best leading actor for “El reino” and / or the cast for “La noche de 12 años”.

.- ACTORS- The rivals of De la Torre for the Goya for the best leading actor are heavyweights of Spanish cinema and all have some Goya to their credit. De la Torre is the corrupt and cornered politician of “El reino”; Javier Gutiérrez, the bad-tempered coach in “Campeones”; Jose Coronado the avenging father in “Tu hijo” and Javier Bardem the good guy of the family in “Todo el mundo lo sabe”.

.- ACTRESSES: – Also the nominated actresses are consecrated veterans. It is the case that three of them compete with roles that revolve around motherhood: Susi Sanchez in “La enfermedad del domingo”, Penelope Cruz in “Todo el mundo lo sabe” and Lola Dueñas in “Viaje al cuarto de una madre”. The fourth candidate is Najwa Nimri, an amnesiac singer in “Quién te cantará”.

.- WOMEN.- Of 121 nominees (interpreters are excluded), 89 are men (73.5%) and 32 women (26.5%). There are no Goya nominees for a better direction. Neither in music, photography or animation. On the other hand, in a novel direction, three of four nominations correspond to women.

.- NO EXPERIENCE ACTORS.- The majority of this year’s actor / actress candidates did not even have previous experience before the camera. This is the case of Jesus Vidal and Gloria Ramos (“Campeones”), but also of Moreno Borja, Rosy Rodríguez and Zaira Romero (“Carmen y Lola”) or the dancer Carlos Acosta (“Yuli”).

.- TRIBUTE TO IBÁÑEZ SERRADOR WITH J.A. BAYONA.- The Honoured Goya Award is for Narciso Ibañez Serrador. Due to his delicate state of health, the award was granted to him in the previous party of nominees in Madrid but during the gala in Seville a video-tribute will be premiered directed by J.A.Bayona.
