ATTACK WITH A “BOMB CUBE” ON THE LONDON SUBWAY

London / Twenty-two people today have been wounded, though not seriously, after an explosion of a home-made device in a London subway car that British police investigate as a terrorist act.

The attack, which took place at 08.21 local time (07.21 GMT), took place at Parsons Green station on the suburban section of the partially suspended District line between Wimbledon and Earls Court stations.

The explosion, which triggered a “fireball”, according to several witnesses, occurred in a white cube that was inside a supermarket bag in a wagon of a train with capacity for 865 passengers.

Mark Rowley, head of Scotland Yard’s anti-terrorism unit, said the device was home-made and members of MI5’s British intelligence services are collaborating in the investigation and that agents are analysing images of security cameras.

British Prime Minister Theresa May will chair this afternoon a meeting of the Cobra emergency committee, made up of top government ministers.

“My thoughts are with those who were injured in Parsons Green and the emergency services that are once again responding quickly and bravely to a suspected terrorist incident,” Prime Minister said in a statement.

The UK has suffered several attacks this year, such as the one perpetrated last March before the London Parliament; the Manchester Arena stadium, in the north of England, in May; the London Bridge and Borough Market in June, and another, also in June, in a mosque in the north of the British capital.
