BLIMP FLIES OVER UK’S PARLIAMENT IN PROTEST AT DONALD TRUMP’S VISIT

London/ A colorful blimp depicting a diaper-wearing, cellphone-holding United States president took to the skies above the Houses of Parliament of the United Kingdom on Friday in protest against Donald Trump‘s three-day working visit, his first to that country as head of state.

Dubbed “Trump Baby,” the blimp was filled and flown over Parliament Square by a group of activists who objected to Trump‘s visit.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan defended his decision to grant permission for the large, rotund object to fly, saying it was not his duty to censor nor decide whether a protest was in good or bad taste.

“The idea that we would park our rights and privileges and freedoms because it may cause offense to a US president, I think people in London and the UK would find objectionable and indeed would Americans,” Khan earlier told the BBC’s Today Show.

Trump has been critical of Khan in the past, and in an interview with the Sun newspaper published Friday slammed the London mayor for having done what he deemed “a very bad job on terrorism” and “a bad job on crime.”

The president, who arrived on Thursday to the UK, where he met Prime Minister Theresa May and her husband Philip for a formal dinner along with his wife Melania, was scheduled to have tea with Queen Elizabeth II at Windsor Castle before traveling to Scotland where he would spend the weekend at a golf course he owns there.

The presidential visit would be marked by protests across the UK, including in London, Aylesbury, near the PM’s official country residence outside of the capital, Chequers, Manchester, and Glasgow. (Practica Español.)
