“Campeones” opens the first Spanish Film Week in South Korea

Seoul / On Tuesday, the first Spanish Film Week in South Korea started in Seoul with the screening of director Javier Fesser’s “Campeones” film, awarded with the Goya for best film in 2019.

The film exhibition, organized by the Embassy of Spain and the Seoul film library, will last until Sunday, November 24 and it includes six other Spanish-language films.

In addition to “Campeones”, they will be screened in original version and with subtitles “Handia” (2017), by Jon Garaño and Aitor Arregi; “El Aviso” (2018), Daniel Calparsoro; “Todo sobre mi madre” (1999), by Pedro Almodovar; “Maria y los otros” (2016), by Nely Reguera; “Petra” (2018), by Jaime Rosales; and “Truman” (2015), by Cesc Gay.

The film exhibition, the first of its kind in the Asian country, seeks to increase the interest of South Koreans in cinema made in Spain by taking advantage of the growing fascination with Spanish culture in the Asian nation.

The interest in Spanish is motivated in part by the impressive increase in tourist visits from the Asian country, which have been multiplied by 10 since 2010.

In 2018, half a million South Koreans (one percent of the total population of the country) visited Spain, which in the last two years has also become a popular scenario to record South Korean television programs. (November 19, 2019, EFE/Practica Español)
