Cleanliness obsession improves P&G’s first quarter profit

New York / Cleaning products giant Procter & Gamble (P&G) net profit improved 12% in the first quarter of 2021 as the cleaning habits that fueled the coronavirus pandemic continue to be maintained, according to data presented this week. Tuesday for the multinational.

Net profit in the first three months of the year, which counts as the third quarter of P&G’s fiscal year, rose to $3.269 billion, ahead of analysts’ expectations.

Sales show no signs of slowing after improvements during the coronavirus crisis and rose 5% to $18.109 billion, partly because demand for beauty products is recovering.

Demand for cleaning products in North America is such that the Cincinnati, Ohio-based company expects to raise prices to cope with rising prices for some raw materials, a move already made by competitor Kimberly-Clark.

“The positive results are driven by disproportionate top-line growth in the household cleaning, oral care and appliance categories in North America and China,” the company said in a statement on Tuesday.

The home segment, which includes the Dawn or Cascade brands, and the beauty segment both experienced sales increases of 7%, while the health products division, which includes Oral B, increased its sales revenue by 3% .

The beauty division, which focuses mainly on shaving and hair removal, grew revenues by 4 %, with a 20 % increase in razors and blades revenues, partly due to a price increase, but mainly due to demand from women, as men remain disinclined to shave after more than a year of the pandemic.

The company maintained its projections of income growth of between 5 and 6% in the total of the year 2021.

It also announced a price increase in hygiene products for babies, women and diapers for adults due to the increase in the prices of raw materials. (April 20, 2021, EFE / PracticaEspañol)
