DE BLASIO PROMISES TO GO FURTHER AFTER BEING RE-ELECTED MAYOR OF NEW YORK

New York / Bill de Blasio, a political figure with a growing profile in the U.S. Democratic Party, won an overwhelming victory in the New York municipal elections, in which he took more than twice the votes that his Republican rival.

De Blasio occupies the mayoralty of the largest city in the country for four years, he represents the progressive wing in the Democratic Party and has been defending the interests of the emigrants and the poorest during his tenure.

De Blasio won 86 percent of the votes in the municipal elections, according to almost total scrutiny.

His most important rival, the Republican Nicole Malliotakis, barely reached 28 percent of the votes.

In his first message to his followers after the voting, an hour after the polls closed Blasio warned that with his new electoral victory has just begun and that his triumph marks the beginning of a new era.

In his speech, De Blasio, 56, defended municipal policies and aimed at national proposals to seek a more just society and defend migrants.

The victory of De Blasio came on the eve of the first anniversary of the victory at the polls of Republican Donald Trump, who came to the White House and who is adopting a series of measures that have only raised resentment among New Yorkers.

De Blasio summarized his intentions: “You have seen important changes in the last four years, but you have not seen anything yet.” (November 8, 2017, EFE/Practica Español)
