Athens / Firefighters and rescue teams are continuing to search for victims in the areas devastated by Greece wildfires in which at least 81 people have died.
According to the latest data from the Greek fire service, 64 of the 187 wounded remain hospitalized, four of whom are children, while 11 remain in critical condition.
The number of missing persons remains unclear.
Greek fire brigade spokesperson, Stavrula Marilli, said the number of missing may include bodies that have not yet been identified, as well as people who have returned to their homes without notifying authorities.
Red Cross rescue teams are now in Mati and surrounding areas to analyze the situation house by house.
Minister of Defence Panos Kammenos said on Thursday morning after a meeting with local authorities that the fires in Mati have destroyed 25 percent of the houses.
The government of Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has announced a package of immediate relief aid for those affected by the fires, which includes up to 6,000 euros for families and 8,000 euros for companies affected.
The Greek government also plans to provide property tax exemptions for those whose homes were destroyed or damaged, and the postponement of taxes and debt payments for people affected.
Meanwhile, land-clearing work in the affected areas is continuing around the clock as heavy rains are expected soon, which could spark a new disaster if the rubble blocks the passage of water.
The fires across the capital region of Attica are under control, although not yet completely extinguished. (July 26, 2018, EFE/Practica Español)
