Barcelona / About 20,000 people, according to the city agents, protest in front of the Palace of Justice of Barcelona, headquarters of the High Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC), after yesterday the Guardia Civil break up the operative of the illegal consultation of 1- O by judicial order, whit 14 arrests, including a dozen senior regional government officials.
The detainees, two of whom have been released today but charged, whit accused, are accused of prevarication, embezzlement and disobedience; and today it has been known that the Guardia Civil has also added the one of sedition for some of them.
The concentration, in front of the headquarters of the highest court in Catalonia, happens to the one that, on the evening of yesterday, gathered around 40,000 people in Rambla Catalunya to protest the 14 arrests and seizure of almost 10 million ballots paper for illegal consultation. In that operation, the Guardia Civil registered a total of 41 offices in three companies and in the departments of Economy, Foreign Affairs, Labor and Government of the Generalitat.
The judicial operation prompted an urgent meeting of the regional government and behind it and SUPPORT by his ministers, the Catalan president, Carles Puigdemont, accused the State Government of “de facto suspending” the regional autonomy of Catalonia and “de facto implementing a state of emergency “; as well as to make an appeal to the Catalans to respond with “firmness and serenity” going they to vote the 1-O.
Meanwhile, Spanish President Mariano Rajoy, following meetings with the leaders of the PSOE and Citizens, warned those in charge of the Generalitat that they are still “in time to avoid greater evils”: “Do not go ahead, do not have no legitimacy, return to law and democracy”, he said at institututional statement in the Moncloa Palace.
Rajoy reiterated that he will not give up any of the instruments of the rule of law to “prevent the unreason of a few, to be suffered by all citizens,” always acting “firm, proportionate and rigorous.”
Meanwhile, the State Attorney General, José Manuel Maza, ordered the provincial prosecutors in Catalonia to investigate the “hate campaigns, threats and coercion” directed at mayors, officials and individuals opposed to collaborating with 1-O.
The government controls since yesterday all payments from the Generalitat, after Finance Minister Cristóbal Montoro signed an order for the non-availability of credits in the budget of Catalonia for 2017, but yesterday the regional Government was again accountable , something to which he had refused.
Separatist entities, Catalan National Assembly and Òmnium Cultural, conveners of the protests, have today called for the continued mobilization of citizens to “leave nobody in the way” after the arrests of senior officials of the Generalitat for the preparation of the 1 -O, suspended by the Constitutional Court.
