Eduardo Halfon (literature)

The Guatemalan writer Eduardo Halfon expressed his regret for what he considered fragmentation of Latin American literature: “there is very little literary communication within the countries of South America and Spain is the force of distribution.”

Halfon (Guatemala, 1971) participated in Logroño (Spain) in the X Poetry in Spanish Days with the presentation of a work of poems by some young poets from Guatemala. The writer, who had been living for a year in the Spanish region of La Rioja due to personal reasons, said, at a press conference, that in the literary field there was “very little communication between the countries of Latin America.” In his opinion, “the new generation of Latin American narrators is very scattered, there are no longer great political novels or about dictators, the literary boom had its moment, and what is being done is totally dispersed now, there are many kinds of literature that are very difficult to categorize. “

Halfon described as a “curious phenomenon” that “Latin American writers needed Spain so that our work is known in Latin America.” “Spain is for us (the new generation of writers) the best escape route, we are much closer to our books being here, before it was Paris,” said the writer.

3.- Read translation while you listen the MP3:

“Latin American literature, to make a pause on that side of the world first, is very fragmented, very fragmented. I mean that there is very little communication between countries, isn’t it?” For a writer, for the work of a Guatemalan writer,  arrive in El Salvador, it has to travel to Spain, doesn’t it? My books, to be read in Latin America, have to look for a springboard for a distributor, an editorial, with the strength to distribute in Latin America and it is a very curious phenomenon that we still need to be in Spain so that we read each other. ”
