Paris / The British singer Elton John will present at the 72nd edition of the Cannes Film Festival out of competition “Rocketman”, a film based on his own life and played by the Welshman Taron Egerton.
Sources have informed EFE that the film, of which the singer and his husband, David Furnish, are producers. The biopic will be projected next May 16, two days after the opening of the Festival.
“Rocketman”, directed by Dexter Fletcher, goes through the childhood and the heyday of the performer, who is at the head of a brilliant career with more than 300 million records sold, a Grammy and an Oscar to his credit for the music of “The Lion King “-.
“Rocket Man” (1972), “Candle In The Wind” (1973), or “Do not Go Breaking My Heart” (1976) are some of the hits that powered him to stardom.
The 72nd edition of the Cannes Film Festival will be held between May, 14 and 25 and it will be inaugurated by “The dead do not die”, a zombie film by the American director Jim Jarmusch, which will compete for the Palma de Gold.
