20 PHRASES TO DIFFERENTIATE ‘POR POCO’ AND ‘POR SI FUERA POCO’

You told me that you had been at a big birthday party and I had a hard time understanding that when you said ‘they almost (por pocoinvited the whole family’ what you wanted to say is ‘in case it was not enough (por si fuera pocothey invited us all the family.’ It is similar, but it is not the same. The meaning of the adverbial locution ‘por poco‘ (almost) in that context is equivalent to ‘casi‘ (almost) (there has been little to invite the whole family); and the meaning of ‘por si fuera poco‘ (if it were not enough) is equivalent to ‘ y además’ (in addition) (they celebrated a party and as if it were not enough they invite us all the whole family.)
