Famous graffiti of urban artist Banksy, in charity auction in London

Seven street pieces of art of British urban artist Banksy are being exhibited in London, for the first time all together, after being taken away from the wall and being sold in a polemic charity auction.

An arduous work to extract them from the walls where the anonymous Banksy painted them and a long and expensive process of restoration held by the company Sincura Group allowed pieces of art like the famous mural “Girl and Balloon”, be presented between 24th and 28th April in the luxurious hotel ME of the British capital in the exhibition “Stealing Banksy”.

“This show has got nothing to do with me and I think it’s disgusting people are allowed to go around displaying art on walls without getting permission”, affirmed Banksy in his official Facebook in response to the exhibition, the same day of its opening

Graffiti will be knocked down to the highest bidder, whose name will be published on 1st May.

The jewel of the auction, with an estimated price of 600,000 euros, was the graffiti of two children who look at the sky expecting the fall of an imaginary ball under the poster ’No ball games’.

t was in September 2009 when the drawing appeared, out of the blue, in a wall of Tottenham Green, in northeast London, where it remained until being cut into pieces in 2013, in order to extract it from the wall, to restore it and now to sell it to collect money for the organization Step by Step..

Because of the thickness of the wall and its excessive weight, the team of restores were obliged to divided into pieces, and now it’s a jigsaw puzzle built in an iron structure.

Other of the most characteristic images from Banksy, the black silhouette of a girl who hold a red balloon with the shape of a heart, from which millions of copies have been done around the world, appeared for sale a decade after with a starting price of 450,000 pounds (540,000 euros).

Full of mystery because of its anonymity and the satiric tone of his drawings, Banksy, the most valued graffiti artist, surprises frequently with his new drawings in different spots of the planet.

One of the last ones appeared a few weeks ago in the British city of Cheltenham, where Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) are held..

It portrays three men dressed with raincoats and hats, the traditional profile of a secret agent of the 50’s, who listen with cables a conversation of a man in a telephone box.

Liverpool Rat”, a rat in black and white that some people confuse with a cat and that Banksy painted in a pub in Liverpool (west of England) in 2006 is attributed as a restoring project which requires an extra investment of 60,000 pounds (72,000 euros) and that will increase the value of the pub until 400,000 pounds (480,000 euros), according to the company.

’Silent Majority’, created by Banksy during three days in a trailer of almost ten meters long during Glastonbury music festival in 1998; ’Sperm Alarm’ which shows a fire alarm surrounded by sperms; ’Oldskool’, which represents a group of retired people dressed with jackets and baseball caps; ’Boy with Heart’, a boy who is painting a pink heart on the wall, and ’2 rats’, an abstract drawing that Banksy painted in Berlin, completed the auction.
