FELIPE VI APPEARS IN FAMILY IN HIS 50TH BIRTHDAY: CONGRATULATIONS, SIR!

The celebration of Felipe VI’s 50th birthday on Tuesday, January 30, has allowed Spaniards to see video images and unpublished photographs of his activity, including family scenes with Mrs. Letizia and her daughters, Leonor and Sofía, as well as as scenes from the recording of the Christmas Eve speech.

La Casa del Rey has made available to the media a total of 77 photos and 84 minutes of video on family life and the daily work of Felipe VI.

Lunch

In the lunch, which took place on last January 13, the King, the Queen and her daughters are seen around the table, talking while they take the first course: a vegetable stew served by Mrs. Letizia.

– “Ouch! It’s hot!, exclaims Princess Leonor, with a gesture that has burned, and her mother advises:

– “Blow, daughter.”

It is part of a talk about exams, about time – “the rain is very good for us,” says the King; of “a walk through the countryside” or of the theatre play that infanta Sofia is going to perform.

The images of the lunch show that the Princess of Asturias takes the spoon with her left hand, which suggests that she is left-handed.

To the school

Another moment of the private life of the King and the Queen and their daughters that the Spaniards have seen was captured on January 10, when they accompanied to Leonor and Sofia to the school in a car driven by the King.

The scene begins before leaving the house, when Mr. Felipe is seen in the hand of Leonor walking down the stairs.

-“Do you have everything ready? Do you carry everything in your backpack? Are you sure?”, the King asks to the Princess.

After putting on their coats, the four get into the car. Inside, a mini-camera has been installed on the dashboard to record the conversation they have on the way from Zarzuela to the school.

– “You don’t have an exam, do you, Sofia?” Mrs. Letizia asks.

– “It’s lucky,” the King adds to the negative response of his little daughter.

– “What time is your exam about nature, Leonor?” Adds the Queen addressing Leonor, who is heard reviewing the periodic table of the chemical elements (“Magnesium, Mg, valence 2, metal… Strontium, Sr, valence 2…”).

– “You know it very well”, animates Mrs. Letizia just before arriving at the school parking lot and getting out of the car.

– “Don’t forget anything… Beware of the door, which is heavy” warns the King.

Christmas Eve Speech

In the third block, the King is seen with his family on the occasion of the Christmas Eve speech. In a pause of the recording, Leonor and Sofia burst into the audience room to greet their father.

– “No kiss is given”, warns the King, warned by the technicians that the makeup can be damaged, and the girls, smiling, pretend to kiss him.

– “Has it gone well?”, says Princess Leonor who is interested in the essay, to which her father invites them to follow the final reading from an adjoining room. “But speak in a low voice,” he begs them in the presence of the Queen.

The sequence closes with the King, sitting next to Leonor, watching on a television how the speech has been, in the company of the head of la Casa del Rey, Jaime Alfonsin, and RTVE president, José Antonio Sánchez. (January 29, 2018, EFE/Practica Español)
