The infanta Sofía received the First Communion in the parish of Asunción de Nuestra Señora, in the neighborhood of Aravaca in Madrid, accompanied by her parents, the King and the Queen, and her sister, Princess Leonor, as well as Mr. Juan Carlos and Mrs. Sofia, her maternal grandparents and his godfather.
In addition to the parents of the Queen, Jesus Ortiz and Paloma Rocasolano, the great-grandmother of Sofía, María del Carmen Álvarez del Valle – paternal grandmother of Doña Letizia – and Ana Togores, the current wife of her maternal grandfather , as well as prince Konstantin of Bulgaria, godfather of baptism of the infanta, have attented to religious ceremony.
About fifteen minutes before noon, Sofía and her sister arrived at the entrance of the temple with the hand of their parents and the four saluted to the fifty of Aravaca’s neighbours who waited next to the outside bars of the church and that cheered the King and the Queen on several occasions.
King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofía have talked smiling before joining Mr. Felipe, Mrs. Letizia and their daughters for the family photo.
Mr. Juan Carlos has joked with his granddaughter Leonor and praised her blue dress and matching shoes, while Sofia, with her hands clasped, smiled when reporters asked if she was nervous and her sister encouraged her to say yes.
Like her sister two years ago, the Infanta Sofía, who was baptised on July 15, 2007, received the sacrament of the Eucharist in a collective religious ceremony together with about twenty classmates of the Primary School of the Santa Maria de los Rosales School, dressed in the center uniform: navy blue jacket with school crest, tie and grey skirt.
After the ceremony, Sofía and the members of her family went to the Palace of the Zarzuela to celebrate there a private lunch.
