FIRST VISIT OF THE ISRAELI STATE TO SPAIN IN 25 YEARS

Jerusalem / The president of Israel, Reuvén Rivlin, starts a four-day visit to Spain on Sunday at the invitation of King Felipe VI, becoming the first Israeli president who travel officially to the country in the last 25 years.

On the trip, he is accompanied by his wife, Nechama, and a delegation of more than 40 businessmen with a view to establishing commercial ties with Spanish companies.

King Felipe VI will entertainthem with a state reception and a closed-door meeting.

Rivlin also plans to hold meetings with the President of the Government, Mariano Rajoy, with the Mayor of Madrid, Manuela Carmena, and to participate in a conference with Minister of Economy, Luis de Guindos.

He has also reserved moments to have contacts with the world of sports and he will be with the president of Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez.

The trip coincides with a moment of political high tension in Spain due to the Catalan secessionist crisis for which Israel has avoided making a statement, limiting itself to pointing out that it is an internal matter.

In the last three decades, Spain and Israel have greatly developed their economic, cultural, scientific and educational links.
