The five were part of a group of friends who celebrated 30th anniversary of their graduation at the Polytechnic School of the city of Rosario in Manhattan, official sources of the southern country informed, and they were in south-west Manhattan when the events occurred.
Another Argentine, Martin Ludovico Marro, is admitted to Presbiterian Hospital, out of danger recovering from the injuries suffered, according to the official medical report.
The assailant burst in with a van in a bicycle lane near the Hudson River, and along fifteen streets he rammed the vehicle with the people he encountered, until he crashed into a school bus.
The driver left the vehicle holding two weapons, a pellet gun and paint gun. He was reduced and stopped by the police after receiving one or several shots in the abdomen.
The police only confirmed that the aggressor, when leaving the vehicle, shouting some cries that were “consistent with the qualification of terrorist act“.
According to local media, some witnesses heard the attacker shouting “Allahu Akbar” (Allah is great).
The images broadcast on social networks and reproduced on television showed a man, with a long beard, walking down the street with two weapons.
The Argentine Executive expressed “its sincere condolences” for the event and added that the Consulate General in this U.S. city continues to work in “permanent contact” with the police authorities and the hospital that received the injured, as well as with relatives in Argentina.
“We accompany families in this terrible moment of deep pain, which all Argentines share,” it said in a statement.
