GEORGIA ELECTS HIS WOMAN CHIEF OF STATE

Moscow / French-Georgian politics Salome Zurabishvili won the second round of the presidential elections in Georgia by beating the opposition candidate Grigol Vashadze.

According to exit polls, Zurabishvili would have achieved between 55% and 58% of the votes, which makes her the first female president in the history of this Caucasian country.

Zurabishvili, who has promised to strengthen relations with the United States and the European Union, welcomed the results of the polls and extended his hand to the opposition to which he promised dialogue.

The 66-year-old policy, which is also in favour of normalizing ties with Russia, with which Georgia broke relations in 2008 after a brief but bloody war, promised to spare no effort to unify and calm the Caucasus country.

For his part, Vashadze called to wait for the official results of the elections before entering to value them. Not so the former president Mijéil Saakashvili, who had no qualms about calling the elections “illegal” and called the supporters of the opposition candidate to protest their results on the street.

For their part, the authorities assured that security in the country is fully guaranteed.
