GOYA AWARDS: FAVOURITE FILMS IN THE 33rd EDITION IN 2019

“El reino”, by Rodrigo Sorogoyen, with 13 nominations, closely followed by “Campeones” by Javier Fesser, with eleven, have risen as favourites for the 33rd edition of the Goya Awards which will be held on February 2, 2019 in Seville.

The actress Rossy de Palma and the actor and director Paco León have been responsible for reading the names of the finalists, selected from a total of 151 candidates.

The film inspired by the Gürtel plot and the Barcenas case – a scandal of political corruption – competes in the main categories, among them, best film, director, original script, montage and leading actor for Antonio de la Torre, which as usual, does double to be considered also by “La noche de 12 años” by Alvaro Brechner.

Besides, “Campeones” aspires to the Goya for best film, direction and original screenplay. Javier Gutiérrez is nominated as a leading actor and Gloria Ramos, one of the actresses with disabilities who participate in it -alive the character of “Collantes” -, as a revelation actress.

The other films in the main category, best film, are “Carmen y Lola“, a debut film by Arantxa Echevarría which has managed to match in options (8 nominations) “Todos lo saben“, directed by Oscar-winning Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi and also aspiring for the best film.

The gala of delivery of the Goya Awards will be held on February 2 in Seville. It’ll be the second time that these awards are delivered outside of Madrid, after they travelled to Barcelona in 2000.

The only prize that already has a name is the Goya de Honor 2019 which will go to Narciso “Chicho” Ibáñez Serrador, creator of cult films of genre films such as “¿Quién puede matar al niño?” And “La residencia”, reference for a whole generation of film-makers.
