British Prime Minister Theresa May today has a hearing with Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom after dissolution of Parliament, which will give way to the campaign for the general election on 8 June.
As it is tradition, the head of the Government will go to the palace of the Buckingham, residence of the royal family, to inform to queen on the parliamentary dissolution, that became effective last past midnight.
May announced the call for general elections last month because she seeks a firm mandate in the negotiations on the “brexit”, the British withdrawal from European Union (EU).
British politicians will begin today to participate fully in the electoral campaign, travelling through the different constituencies of the country to spread their electoral programs.
Polls of voting intention give May a clear lead – up to more than 20 points – against Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, the leader of the British opposition.
So far, the pre-campaign has been focused on the “brexit” after the British Government activated on March 29 Article 50 of the Treaty of Lisbon, which opens two years of negotiations for the British withdrawal from EU.
British citizens voted in favour of brexit in a referendum held last June and the UK is expected to be out of the European bloc in March 2019.
