Words of author: Ramón Menéndez Pidal (La Coruña, March 13, 1864, Madrid, November 14, 1968). He pronounced the words: “I love work as life itself” in his admission speech in RAE.
Spanish philologist, historian and medievalist. He was creator of the Spanish philological school and member of the generation of 1898.
He founded the Journal of Spanish Philology.
He was member of the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE) and the Royal Academy of History.
Menéndez Pidal wrote Manual elemental de gramática histórica española; Orígenes del español (1926) and Flor nueva de romances viejos(1928).
RAE published in 2005, in collaboration with the Menéndez Pidal Foundation, his Historia de la lengua española, edited by his grandson, Diego Catalán.
