JAVIER BARDEM, ACTOR (“EVERYBODY KNOWS”)

The voice of the Spanish actor Javier Bardem, who talks about the film “Everybody knows”. The family as a mirror of the conflicts of a society returns to be the axis of the last film byAsghar Farhadi, only this time the Oscar-winning director has filmed in Spain and with a Hispanic cast headed by Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem, who presented this last Wednesday in Madrid.

After passing through festivals such as Cannes or Toronto, the eighth feature film by the Iranian filmmaker brings his usual combination of drama and suspense to Spanish cinemas. A wedding in a village reunites the family but the party gets bitter when a girl disappears and old secrets come out.

“An event puts everyone to the test when it comes to telling the truth,” Bardem sums up, “and that is something that is the order of the day, lying to survive.”

Farhadi, winner of two Oscars for “Nader and Simin, a Separation” (2011) and “Forushande (The Salesman)” (2016), was clear from the beginning that Bardem and Cruz, whom he already knew, would be in the film.

Read translation of the transcription:

“They have a conflict that puts them all to the test when it comes to relating to each other and telling each other the truth, hasn’t it? And yes, I think that is the order of the day in all of us, isn’t it? The fact of lying or not telling the truth to survive or not to hurt because we believe that with the truth we will cause a problem to the other, right? When maybe it’s the opposite.”
