KEN FOLLETT: THE FUTURE IS NOT IN THE INDEPENDENCE

Madrid /Nationalism is not for the twentieth century, it is an “obsolete and outdated” ideology, said British writer Ken Follett in Madrid, where he also said: “the future is in integration, not independence.”

Follett (Cardiff, 1949) presented on the stage at the Infanta Isabel Theater in Madrid A column of fire the new novel of his saga The Pillars of the Earth, a story of spies set in the sixteenth century and which has Seville as one of its stages.

Besides, the writer said that the good thing about writing about the past is to know “how it ended”, although he acknowledged that he has no answers about the twentieth century.

“The British people say they are better alone and the Catalan people too, but I do not think so,” he said, although he left a door open to the mistake.

The writer insisted that his novel is not about religion, but about freedom, about the battle between those who believe in tolerance against those who want to impose their ideas on the whole world.

In A column of fire, he talks on the first English espionage service and to write it, Follett has needed to be documented with more than 200 books.

With more than 160 million copies sold of his 30 novels, which have been published in more than 80 countries and in 33 languages, Ken Follett stated that he writes the books that most people likes to read. (October 4, 2017, EFE/Practica Español)
