Madrid wants less musicians for the city center

Madrid / The City Council of Madrid will limit from March the number of “street musicians” in limited areas of the Centro district and will reduce the time they can play to “ensure coexistence with neighbors and merchants”.

The center district councilor, José Fernández, announced on Wednesday that in the first half of February he will approve an instruction that modifies the current regulations, issued by the previous team.

The city council will distribute 450 licenses with a validity of six months, will use the draw method when the number of requests is greater and will look for ways that also the musicians passing through the city can access them.

Street musicians will only be able to perform in residential, commercial and on the Trail from 12.00 to 14.00 and from 15.00 to 21.00, three hours less than today.

Street music will not be allowed in areas with more noise saturation, near health centers, schools, institutes or senior centers.

The amplifiers will continue to be banned in residential areas.

The objective is “to guarantee the culture and at the same time also the rest of neighbors and the work that is done in the shops and offices”, according to the head of the districts of Centro and Salamanca.

The platform of musicians ‘The street sounds’, on Wednesday he played his instruments in protest at the gates of the District Board. (January 31, 2020, EFE / PracticaEspañol)
