MEMPHIS RELIVES ELVIS FORTY YEARS AFTER

Los Angeles (U.S.A.) Despite the years and decades, the myth of Elvis Presley resists disappearance and thousands of people gather in Memphis to revive his unforgettable figure on the fortieth anniversary of his death.

In this city of Tennessee, where Elvis set up his “Graceland” mansion, “Elvis Week” is celebrated each year, a festival that brings together the musician’s fans around August 16, the day when he died in 1977.

Many of them characterized with the toupee and the extravagant costumes of Elvis, the visitors will enjoy a program designed which will be loved by any fan of the rock: from dances and concerts to object auctions, impersonator contest and even charity races.

The central point of “Elvis Week” is the vigil that will take place today at “Graceland” and where his followers will gather to spend the night, between candles and memories, until you see the first rays of the sun.

Few artists transformed popular culture from top to bottom in the twentieth century as Elvis did with his exhilarating appearance in the 50’s and with hits like Suspicious Minds.

Joining country and rhythm and blues to shape the sound of rockabilly, Elvis fell in love with young people based on sexuality, romanticism, irresistible dances and the audacity of who is born to raze on stage.

His life was also an example of the contradictions of the American dream and after touching the sky, he was consumed in the 70’s by his addiction to drugs.

40 years after his death, Elvis continues to be a source of inspiration and business and it is already preparing a television miniseries based on his life.
