Spanish Pau Gasol, NBA player of Chicago Bulls, said he is considering not participating in this summer’s Rio Olympic Games which will kick off on August in Brazil, due to the Zika virus.
in a press conference in Madrid, the famous Spanish basketball player said he is thinking about this matter and hopes all national Olympic committees are fully informed about the situation and potential health risks that could threaten athletes.
Gasol added that he was surprised how little is spoken about the virus, although a group of 150 scientists and researchers sent a letter to the World Health Organization to warn against holding this sporting event in Rio de Janeiro due to the spread of Zika virus in Brazil.
He stressed that the important factor is the health of athletes and their families and fans, not the Games.
The eldest of the brothers Gasol also tried other issues such as their professional future, the injury of his brother Marc or the role of the national team at the games.
Brazil, which will host the Games, is one of 60 countries, where the Zika virus is spreading.
