The voice of President Pedro Sanchez in Spanish, who affirms he would like the current political leaders to be the first ones capable of reforming a Constitution, since he remembers that in the history of Spain they have only happened one after the other.
Sanchez praised the work of the politicians in the Transition period which made possible the constitutional consensus thanks to a “large doses of generosity” with which prevailed the general interest above all.
Forty years later, he observes differences regarding what needs to be done now: “We don’t have to invent a Constitution as they did then. But we do have to make some changes because the materials have worn out, because the Spain of 2018 is not the one of 1978 “.

“I would like therefore that this generation of leaders who are now in the Congress of Deputies and we are running the country with the different political formations were the first generation in the history of our country, which it’s easier said than done, that we are able to reform our Constitution, not to approve a new Constitution, which is what has always happened in our country. Constitutions haven’t been reformed in our country. These have been approved one after the other. Well, one after another with periods, like the latter unfortunately of a dictatorship.”
