Moscow / The passion as the main axis of the creative personality of Pablo Picasso is the theme on which an exhibition of prints by the artist from Malaga, put on sale today in Moscow.
This open graphic art exhibition at the Altmans Gallery presents both works from private collections, hitherto unknown to the general public, and from the gallery’s own collection.
The 25 engravings of different sizes represent the world of bullfighting, wine and women, the different facets of that passion in the immortal artist.
The Muscovite gallery, in whose entrance was a red bull in three dimensions accompanied by a large portrait of the Spanish genius, exhibits engravings belonging to four series: “Vollard Suite”, “Lisístrata”, “Carmen” and “Bulls and bullfighters”.
Considered one of the most important graphic works of the 20th century, “Vollard Suite” is named after the collector Ambroise Vollard and includes works by Picasso in the 1930s, as well as the “Lysistrata” etching cycle (Aristophanes) is of neoclassical style.
Besides, Altmans exhibits two series from the 60s: “Carmen”, engravings and lithographs inspired by the novel by French Prosper Merimee, and “Bulls and bullfighters” in which the painter reflects all his passion for bullfighting.
The exhibition, sponsored by the Instituto Cervantes in Moscow and which it will be open until October 22, included the presence of the Spanish ambassador, Ignacio Ybáñez Rubio, and numerous representatives of the Russian intelligentsia.
The ambassador recalled that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the arrival in the USSR of the Spanish “children of war” and that Picasso “lived very closely the Spanish civil war and one of his best known creations is El Guernica“.
“This is an excellent opportunity to see this exhibition,” commented Ybañez, who alluded to the 40 years that have been recently fulfilled since the reestablishment of diplomatic relations between both countries.
All works exhibited are for sale, with prices ranging from $ 3,000 (2,539 euros), original engravings but without the signature of its creator, up to $ 42,000 (35,500).
In addition, the exhibition includes ceramic pieces signed by the painter from Malaga, which can be purchased for about $ 15,000 (12,600 euros) each of them. (September 28, 2017, EFE/Practica Español)
