Madrid / President of the Spanish Government, Mariano Rajoy, today published a message on the social network Twitter, in which he congratulates the festive day of the Community of Madrid: “a strong, dynamic and entrepreneurial region”.
With the tag “DíadelaCommunidadDeMadrid”, Rajoy wishes a happy day and say he is convinced that the regional government “will continue to drive” economic growth.
“I’m sure it will continue to boost growth, employment and well-being,” the president say in the tweet.
Today the regional government of Madrid celebrates, as every year, the Dos de Mayo
(the popular uprising of 1808 in Madrid, which led Spain to the War of Independence), with the imposition of the medals of the Orden del Dos de Mayo.
They are the maximum distinctions granted by the Community of Madrid with three degrees: Gran Cruz, Encomienda de Número y Cruz.
The celebration takes place this year a week after the resignation of the regional president Cristina Cifuentes (PP) and a acting president, Ángel Garrido, because for the post no name has yet been formally proposed.
The Dos de Mayo meets every year politicians and guests of civil society at a reception in which this year the results of two surveys published by the newspapers El Mundo and La Razón.
After the events that forced the regional president to resign, the surveys give the Community of Madrid in the next regional elections, a year from now, to the party led by Albert Rivera, Citizens, because, as they predict, Rajoy’s party would lose half of their voters. The PSOE would be placed in third position and Podemos, in the fourth.
The institutional acts are held in the Royal Post Office in the Puerta del Sol and they are attended by several politicians of the PP, including the Vice President of the Government and the Secretary General of the PP and Minister of Defense but none of the last four regional presidents by Madrid of the same political formation.
This year, the writer and journalist Alfonso Ussía receives the medals; motorcycling champion Ángel Nieto (posthumously); to the actress Gemma Cuervo; the transplant team of Gregorio Marañón; the ONCE, and the Municipal Police of Madrid.
The philosopher Emilio Lledó has rejected the distinction “given the circumstances”. (2 May 2018, EFE / PracticaEspañol)
