Cairo / The Government of the Houthi rebels has announced the death of former Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh today in the country’s capital, Sanaa.
The radio station of the Interior Ministry controlled by the rebels has assured that the former president died by shots by the Houthis.
A rebel official, who requested anonymity, told EFE that “Saleh died when Houthi fighters fired on the convoy in which he was travelling, passing through a checkpoint in the Yahana area, southeast of Sanaa, while fleeing from the city”.
Saleh’s death occurs amid clashes between his forces and the rebels who until a few days ago were allies in the Yemeni war and disputed power to the government of President Abdo Rabu Mansur Hadi.
At least 125 people have died in these violent clashes, according to the count of the International Committee of the Red Cross. (December 4, 2017, EFE/Practica Español)
