ROGER MOORE, MISCHIEVOUS SMILE AND ARCHED EYEBROW

Roger Moore, the British actor with a mischievous smile and arched eyebrow, who became famous with the series “The Saint” and James Bond films, has died at age 89.

“With great sadness, we must share the terrible news that our father, Sir Roger Moore, passed away today. We are devastated”, posted on Twitter his three children, Deborah, Geoffrey and Christian, the third of their four marriages.

Moore achieved fame and popularity with agent 007 and Simon Templar “The Saint”: he received the title of Sir in 2003 for his work as a goodwill ambassador to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

Born on October 14, 1927 in Stockwell, South London, Moore was the son of a police officer and a housewife.

He studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts and film director Brian Hurst paid his tuition, due to his lack of resources.

Moore married four times (Doorn Van Steyn, Dorothy Squires, Luisa Mattioli and Kristina Tholstrup). With the Italian Mattioli, who separated in 1996 to marry years later with Kristina Tholstrup, Roger Moore had three children, Deborah (1963), Geoffrey (1966) and Christian (1973).

Tall and handsome, Roger Moore conquered the international audience, especially the female audience, with Simon Templar and his left eyebrow, who arched every time he looked up to see the distinctive white halo of “The Saint” before the soundtrack.

Moore put himself in the shoes of Bond in 1973, doing “Live and Let Die” with music by Paul McCartney; First of the seven that he did with Albert Broccoli, which made him the actor who most played agent 007: twelve years.

Although Ian Fleming’s Bond did not look like Moore, the actor triumphed thanks to his ironic humour, deep voice and the phlegmatic character he brought to the character.

In 1985, Moore took leave of Bond to make films less known and years later it began its work with UNICEF, astonished by the work of his friend Audrey Hepburn.
