Scientist (obesity and diseases)

The voice of the scientist Guadalupe Sabio, referring to the diseases which are associated with obesity during an interview with Agencia EFE.

The scientist Guadalupe Sabio, who works at the National Center for Cardiovascular Research since 2011, says today there are no miracle pills against obesity and people who are obese “play Russian roulette”.

And they do, because sooner or later they will suffer from one of the diseases associated with obesity: diabetes, cancer or heart failure, Sabio relates in the interview, in which she insists “the best antidote” against overweight and obesity – two different concepts- is the usual exercise and regular diet.

“There are many (diseases), more than we really realize. That is, we have the typical ones that everyone knows: diabetes, back pain, joint pains, cardiovascular diseases, but there are others which are a little more hidden. Because there is simply a relationship and simply an obese person is more likely to have it, for example, certain types of cancer, such as liver cancer, which is associated with obesity, or gallbladder cancer.”
