SENATE WILL VALIDATE BUDGETS ON JUNE 19

Madrid / The final approval of the General State Budgets in the Senate with an absolute majority of PP is scheduled for next June 19, so if the motion of censure by PSOE is not discussed before that date will ensure that they go ahead.

And this is because, once approved this week by Congress, only the dissolution of the Cortes by an early election call would cause the public accounts that will begin processing in the Senate next Tuesday to decline.

The Constitution prevents Article 115.2 from holding elections while a motion of censure is in progress.

Only if the motion of Pedro Sanchez is discussed before the processing of budgets in the Senate and goes ahead, it would be possible for the Socialist leader to knock down accounts that he has opposed frontally, although for that he would have to call elections.

Otherwise, there would be the paradox that a PSOE government would have to manage budgets of the PP, which has been amended along with a good part of the opposition.

If the president of the Congress, Ana Pastor, sets the date of the investiture motion after the plenary session of June 19, in which the Senate will approve the budgets, from that moment they will be shielded before its entry into force.

The debate of the previous motion of censure of Unidos Podemos against Rajoy, a year ago now, was held 25 days after its presentation.

It was on May 19 when the group led by Pablo Iglesias registered it in the Lower House, but it was not debated until June 13, a delay that was justified because at that time the Congress was still debating the budgets.

Now, once the PSOE has been registered, the minimum terms required by the Regulation would not allow it to be held before the week beginning on June 4.

In that same week the plenary of the Senate will debate the proposals of veto (amendments to the totality) to the General Budgets of the State sent from the Congress.

To set the date of the debate on the motion, Ana Pastor will talk beforehand with the socialist candidate or the alternative candidates that may be presented, as well as with the President of the Government. (May 25, 2018, EFE/Practica Español)
