SEPARATISM GOES RIGHT TO THE END AND VOTES, PASSES AND DECLARES THE REPUBLIC OF CATALONIA

Barcelona / Parliament of Catalonia submitted a secret ballot, in a glass urn, and approved with 70 votes in favour, 10 against and 2 blank slips of the deputies from the separatist groups JxSí and the CUP a resolution whose preamble declares to Catalonia “a State independent in the form of a republic”.

Ciudadanos, PSC and PPC  did not participate in the voting. These left the chamber so as not to endorse with their presence an illegal vote.

“We assume the mandate of the people of Catalonia expressed in the referendum on self-determination on October 1 and I declare that Catalonia becomes an independent state in the form of a republic,” says literally the text presented by JxSí and CUP.

Also in its preamble – and not in the part voted, because JxSí and CUP consider that the independence was already voted by the citizens in the day of 1-O-, the resolution says: “We constitute the Catalan republic, as an independent state and sovereign, right, democratic and social.”

Shortly after the vote, some media reported the withdrawal of the Spanish flag from the headquarters of the Parliament. (October 27, 2017, EFE/Practica Español)
