Madrid / Community transmission, transmission not detected. These are words that mark the trend and possible dimension of the coronavirus outbreaks, such as those registered in three regions of Huesca bordering the province of Lleida that have forced the Government of Aragon to take containment measures equivalent to those of phase 2 of the de-escalated and to recommend that mobility be reduced, only one day after the end of the alarm state.
The infections of the Huesca districts of Bajo Cinca, Cinca Medio and La Litera, which affect more than fifty people, mostly young people with mild symptoms, are associated with fruit and vegetable companies, but they have also been detected in family settings and are those that most concern the health authorities, who have reported another dozen spikes, two in Navarra and another two in Murcia and Galicia due to cases imported from Bolivia and Brazil.
With these threats, foreseen and announced, today has been the first working day of the “new normal” with more activity in transport and on the street, but still far from the daily routine prior to the pandemic, while the SARS-CoV- 2 continues to spread rapidly throughout the world, where it has infected nearly 9 million people and killed more than 470,000, according to Johns Hopkins University.
The confirmed infections in Spain rise to 246,504 with 28,324 deaths (21 in the last week) after questioned review that leaves even more open the controversy about the deaths caused by covid-19, given the excess mortality in the period, encrypted by the INE in about 20,000 deaths, and the different death counts without tests, but with symptoms in the nursing homes, which exceed 19,000.
Back to phase 2
Nearly 68,000 people from the Huesca districts of Cinca Medio, Bajo Cinca and La Litera are back in a scenario similar to that of phase 2 of the de-escalation, with capacity of 50% and recommendation not to enter or leave these territories. , after various upturns have been registered in towns such as Zaidín, Binéfar, Fraga or Monzón, linked to the collection and transformation of fruit and vegetables, but which have passed into the family sphere.
This last circumstance places the virus in its most dangerous aspect, that of community transmission, as recognized by the director general of Public Health of Aragon, Francisco Javier Falo: “This outbreak is quantitatively and qualitatively very important because if we do not tackle it, we have the risk of losing control of community transmission in a territory ”.
The director of the Center for the Coordination of Emergencies and Health Alerts, Fernando Simón has also expressed his concern: “There is a risk that the Huesca outbreak will spread to Lleida, there is much exchange and much contact. The temp job is changing. ”
Everything points to the number of those affected continuing to increase, since more than 200 diagnostic tests have been carried out, which until now have detected mostly mild cases of young or asymptomatic people, who have not required hospitalization, in a particularly sensitive area with various outbreaks in recent weeks, in the midst of the fruit harvesting campaign.
The Minister of Health, Salvador Illa, has said that these outbreaks were detected early and acted with “great force”, especially when 25 cases were confirmed yesterday in Huesca of the 33 reported in Aragon, which has been this Monday the community that most Contagions has been reported, followed by Catalonia, with 24; Navarra, with 21, and Madrid, with 17.
Of the other dozen outbreaks active in Spain, two have occurred in Navarra, one in the north of the community and the other in Pamplona and Comarca, with 21 infected after two family reunions. Of a diverse nature have been those registered, respectively, in Galicia and Murcia, from imported cases, the first from Brazil with nine infected, and the second from Bolivia with sixteen, which occur in both cases by controlled.
Along with these outbreaks, the Junta de Castilla y León reported today a regrowth in the Río Hortega hospital in Valladolid, with 18 cases, 12 of them health and six patients, after a positive one was detected in the center on June 16, a patient who had negative in previous diagnostic tests on several occasions.
In view of this series of outbreaks, Fernando Simón has insisted that the new cases, as seen in the Huesca outbreaks, are “much milder. Now we are detecting those who went unnoticed or those who were asked to stay home due to the overload (…) The average age a month ago was 62 years, now around 50 ″.
New daily life
The first working day of the new daily life has been lived in Spain with more activity on the street and transportation, but still far from the usual in the old normal, which is not even a remote possibility on the horizon in the short and medium term, where almost everything is uncertainties and vague hopes with the usual certainties canceled or postponed.
For not having this summer there will be one of the most characteristic “exoduses” that converge in the Operation Crossing the Strait, which Morocco has suspended for the first time since it was launched in 1986 and during which more than 3.5 million People cross Spain from north to south from European countries on their way to North Africa.
If this Sunday, in the premiere of the end of the state of alarm, road trips approached 900,000, with an increase of 17% compared to the previous Sunday, although 18% less than a year earlier, Monday has also been noted the increase in traffic in large cities, with 10% more movement at entrances to Madrid.
A palpable boost also in public transport with the 25,000 tickets sold by Renfe, in the circulation of regular buses or in the arrival of planes and cross-border traffic, but still too testimonial in other areas, such as tourism, with some intrepid first-time travelers photographing themselves, practically alone, in front of the Royal Palace of Madrid or the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona.
Tourism is key and the summer has already started with few prospects, moderation in reserves and a slab to raise, after suddenly stopping the movements in March and accusing in April, as the World Tourism Organization has highlighted today. (UNWTO), a 97 percent drop in the number of international arrivals.
The tourism sector in Spain is still pending negotiations between the social partners and the Ministry of Labor to extend the validity of the ERTE in order to mitigate the damage caused by a health crisis of uncertain duration that has sharpened the edges of the economic crisis. .
The complicated political debate must be articulated on the effects of these superimposed crises in order to face the problems and deficiencies exposed by the virus and increased by the forced stoppage of economic activity in the midst of a climate of tension that will not temper, precisely, the Galician and Basque electoral campaigns.
The closest stumbling block is the vote in Congress of the decree of the “new normal”, which will not have the support of the ERC, which announced its vote against this Monday because the Government has agreed with Cs, at the same time that it has returned looking back to call on JxCat and the CUP to negotiate a unitary sovereignty strategy for the coming months.
