Seville (Spain) / Red and purple colours for flamenco dresses “Pura Sangre” inspired by Mexico and Spain, aliens or suits adapted to breastfeeding, they went up to the Sevillian catwalk of flamenco fashion, which this year has turned a quarter of a century and is celebrated months before of the April’s Fair.
The International Flamenco Fashion Show in Seville (SIMOF), which this year celebrates its 25th anniversary, has closed its doors today after four intense days in which the diversity of the collections presented has been the predominant note.
Since Thursday, SIMOF has hosted 32 professional shows in which more than 1,500 costumes have been shown by some 50 designers and flamenco fashion firms.
It has been possible to see innovations carried to the extreme, such as the designer from Granada Antonio Gutierrez, who wanted to connect “alien invasions” with flamenco fashion, taking as reference the aesthetics of the B series films of the 60s with elastic fabrics, tight, bright and fluorine colours.
The contrast has been done by works such as ‘Pura Sangre’, the Pilar Rubio’s collection inspired by Mexico and Spain, with adjustments to the body as the predominant note.
Red and purple are some of the colours she has used to make her designs.
Although innovative, the flamenco dress adapted for nursing mothers, presented by several models who climbed the catwalk and breastfed their babies.
The initiative, which SIMOF calls “unusual”, has emerged from Mamandoo, which promotes breastfeeding, in collaboration with the firm Sonibel, and with it they want to claim the flamencas breastfeeding, something that is not very common.
The novelties have also reached the very structure of the fair, which has included “SIMOF baila”, which has allowed flamenco dancing schools throughout Andalusia to perform live on the stage of the Congress and Exhibition Center. (February 10, 2019, EFE/Practica Español)
