The 9 reasons why you should read Doris Day’s obituary

Washington / It does not matter if you are part of the so-called Generation X, of the Millennials Generation or one of the children of the Baby Boom, if they tell you about Doris Day and you have to use Google to identify her or associate it with a movie, like Pillow Talk or Lover Come Back, you have a serious problem of general culture or memory. There are many reasons to be interested in the life and career of Doris Day and here, we tell you nine reasons:

1 and 2.- Culture would be a very important reason to read the obituary of Doris Day and the second is that the actress, from Ohio (1922), was one of the most popular in the decade of cinema that reaches the sixties, forming part of that relationship of great actresses, myths of the American classic cinema and the golden decade of Hollywood.

3.- Third, because I’m sure you’ll hear his famous “What will be, will be” composed by Joy Livingstone and Ray Evans for the Alfred Hitchcock film “The Man Who Knew Too Much”, musical composition that received an Oscar.

4.- The fourth reason is that in addition to being the star of more than fifty movies, many belonging to the genre of comedy, she was also one of the most beloved faces of television of the mid-20th century with the “The Doris Day Show”, series that remained on the air between 1968 and 1973.

5.- Because her first steps in the world of entertainment were as pop and jazz singer with Barney Rapp, Bob Crosby and Les Brown. Te first of them was who suggested the name of Doris Day as a stage name as she was named Doris Mary Ann Kappehoff.

6.- Because this actress starred films with myths from the world of entertainment such as Rock Hudson, Frank Sinatra, James Stewart, Clark Gable, Jack Lemon and Kirk Douglas, among many others.

7.- Because, she was married four times – divorced in three – and although many of her films were romances for all audiences, one of her most repeated phrases was, apparently, “the more I study human beings, the more I love animals“.

8.- Doris Day dedicated a good part of her life to the defense of the rights of animals, creating a foundation for the protection of animals in danger.

9.- Because, in 2004, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, but due to her fear of flying, she couldn’t go to pick her up at an official ceremony at the White House.

Now, if you want to go into detail and know more about this legend of the American comedy or you want to see some of her films, go to her official website and review her repertoire.
