The audience boos Peter Sellars and Bill Viola at Teatro Real of Madrid by their version of “Tristan und Isolde”

The audience of Teatro Real said goodbye with boos to Peter Sellars and Bill Viola after the premiere of their version of “Tristan und Isolde, five hours of beauty” presented in Madrid

On the other hand, the audience cheers to the singer Violeta Urmana by her performance of Isolde and they did it almost from the beginning shouting “bravo”.

Also, the German bass Franz-Josef Selig in the role of King Marke and the Russian mezzo Ekaterina in Brangäne were applauded.

The American tenor Robert Dean Smith showed why he is one of the few tenors in the world who can perform the role of Tristan.

Also the French conductor Marc Piollet was applauded and cheered.

The public, however, protested the proposed Sellars, a completely black scene, without more elements a dais flanked by a giant video screen that projects which are considered as the main video artist today, Bill Viola.

The aim of Viola to create a parallel world to the action on stage don’t like the audience in the premiere of the complicated love story of Tristan and Isolde.
